A Trip to the Hot Tub and the Age of Aquarius

Last night I steeled myself with what pleasant thoughts I could muster and headed out to the hot tub for my usual bedtime soak. As I’ve mentioned to many, sitting alone in a hot tub in the middle of the forest at night during the winter seems to invite dark thoughts, for some strange reason. So, I have to be careful to ward off the demons.

Plus, this close to the Canadian border, we have no shortage of winter. All my attention was devoted to staying on my feet as I inched my way over the ice. My expectations for anything vaguely resembling joy were low.

But as soon as I slid into the tub and looked up, I exclaimed, "Oh, my!" three times. And "Oh, my!" is not part of my regular vocabulary. The sky was stunning, highlighted by the Milky Way crossing right overhead, and something bright and blue flickering about 15 degrees above the southern horizon. The star, planet or UFO—whatever it was—was so bright that when I looked straight up, it flickered in the corner of my eyes so bright that it could have been the flashing blue lights of a police car a block away.

I at least had my happy thought for the night. “My love is brighter than the brightest star that shines every night above…” — Petula Clark, 1965. One of my favorites, even though I live in a place where there is absolutely no star that shines every night above; but that’s only due to the reality of clouds, and this is generally their time of year where I live.

When I came back into the house, I tried to look up what star I had been looking at, to no avail. It did lead me to read about the dawning of the Age of Aquarius, though; and a number of articles are saying this is it! Right now! Of course, (NEWS FLASH) not everything you read on the internet is true, but God, I hope so.

So, I’d like to share some of the lyrics that The Fifth Dimension made famous in another troubled time, Spring of 1969.

"Harmony and understanding,

Sympathy and trust abounding,

No more falsehoods or derisions,

Golden living dreams of visions,

Mystic crystal revelations,

And the mind's true liberation.

Aquarius! Aquarius!"

I don’t follow astrology a lot, but the words speak for themselves. All I will say is, “Sign me up!”

CAUTION: WRITTEN ON A DOWN DAY. SORRY. Counselors tell you to find your happy place. Imagine yourself sitting in a hot tub in the middle of the forest. It's winter and the air is cold. But you're warm
